ENR.com reports that two of the world's largest slurry boring machines have begun digging 9-km long tunnels under they Yangtze River in China. The TBM pictured is over 15-m in diameter. (Photo Credit: Bouygues S.A.)

The tunnels are a major part of the $1.6-billion, 25.5-km Shanghai-Chongming  Expressway which will connect Shanghai, Changxing Island and Chongming Island. A major push is being made to have the project completed in time for the 2010 Shanghai Universal Exposition.
