A drilled pier wall is an example of a retaining wall that you might use when global stability or bearing capacity considerations preclude you from a shallow foundation for a conventional retaining wall. In this video, Joseph Kowalski of RetainingWallExpert.com describes the wall type and presents a slideshow of construction photos of what appears to be a wall in a residential community. This wall uses a cast-in-place concrete wall on top of the shafts with a form-liner to create a brick-like aesthetic finish.
