The University of Arizon/USGS Desert Laboratory has been documenting and researching the over 240 slope failures and debris flows in the Southern front of the Santa Catalina Mountains near Tucson, AZ. At least 18 of these debris flows destroyed or damaged structures or roads.

In the Sabino creek area there were upwards of 7 m of deposited sediment and the Mt. Lemmon Short Road box culvert was completely clogged and the flow found a new path around the bridge and through several residential properties. Be sure to check out the PDF version of a PowerPoint presentation prepared by members of the USGS, National Weather Service, and the AZ Geologic Survey.
